Injectables have traditionally been used for lip and skin enhancement. As longer lasting fillers have become available volume replacement with injections beneath the skin have become commonplace. Injectables can help restore or improve facial harmony through replacing or adding volume beneath the skin surface (subdermal fillers), softening lines, scars or wrinkles (intradermal fillers) or weakening overactive facial muscles (denervating agents).
Popular volume enhancers include autologous fat, Radiesse, Restylane and Sculptra. Human collagen (CosmoDerm, CosmoPlast) and hyaluronic acids (Captique, Hylaform, Restylane) are popular wrinkle correctors. BOTOX®Cosmetic is the currently available denervating agent.
