Patients with a short chin may benefit from placement of a chin implant to augment or lengthen the chin. Important considerations include previous surgery as well as position of the upper jaw (maxilla) and dental arches. Some patients with associated dental problems may need surgery other than a chin implant for maximum benefit.

Placement of a chin implant is a relatively simple procedure that usually involves a small incision under the chin. Chin augmentation is commonly performed at the same time as rhinoplasty, neck contouring or face and neck lift.
