Patients with prominent scars may be candidates for scar revision.
Scars may be prominent for a variety of reasons: raised, wide, red, depressed, crossing natural lines or boundaries of the face, etc.
Scar revision may involve complete removal of the old scar, re-orienting the old scar or blending-in the old scar with dermabrasion or laser treatment. Scars are generally not considered mature until they are one year old. Immature scars (less than one year old) that are raised may respond to a variety of treatments including injected or topical steroids, scar massage, silicone gel or sheeting application and various laser treatments.
