Eyelid Lift
Patients with excess or redundant upper or lower eyelid skin and/or bulging eyelids may benefit from eyelid surgery. Important considerations include previous surgery, position of the eyelids, position of the eye relative to the surrounding bony structures and pre-existing conditions that affect the eyes or may likely affect the eyes.
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) involves removal of skin and/or bulging fat.
Upper blepharoplasty requires an incision that is generally placed near the natural eyelid crease.
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty may require an external incision (just below the eyelashes) for removal of excess skin (and bulging fat if needed). The transconjunctival approach (through the inside of the lower eyelid) is commonly performed when the problem is mostly related to bulging fat. Patients often undergo laser skin resurfacing (eg, fractional CO2 laser) of the lower eyelid skin at the same time as transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty for an enhanced result.
Eyelid surgery is often performed at the same time as brow lift and/or face and neck lift.
