Procedures & Services Facial Plastic Surgery Center Cheek Implant Facial aging can affect volume at multiple levels. At the skin level, decreased collagen thickness and loss of elasticity lead to formation of wrinkles and sagging. Changes also occur beneath the skin. Aging of the midface generally involves redistribution of fat volume – with increasing hollowness of the mid-cheek and increasing fullness of the nasolabial fold as fat migrates downward in the face. Optimum rejuvenation of the aging cheek may require re-draping of sagging tissues (facelift and/or mid-face lift), skin resurfacing (to smooth wrinkles and tighten skin) and filler injections or cheek implants to increase volume. Recently, selective removal of volume (fat that has migrated downward in the face) has become possible with the revolutionary AccuLift™ facial contouring procedure. In 2009, Dr. Holcomb authored a scientific paper describing the use of cheek implants to enhance facial rejuvenation results with facelift surgery: Holcomb JD.
